Q: What is TRIO?
A: TRIO is a federally funded educational support program that helps
promising students overcome barriers to higher education. TRIO has been in
existence since 1965. Today, TRIO serves nearly 700,000 students nationwide.
TRIO grants are awarded to over 1,200 colleges, universities, and other
post-secondary institutions.
Q: What is the purpose of TRIO at WCCC?
A: Our purpose is to help WCCC students succeed in their educational
and career goals. We do this by helping students improve academically,
graduate, begin a career, or transfer to a four-year college or university
of their choice.
Q: Who is eligible?
A: Students are eligible for services if they have an academic need and
meet the following Department of Education federal guidelines:
- Are citizens of the United States or have permanent residency
- Are enrolled in classes at WCCC as matriculating students
- Are in need of academic support
Meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Neither parent graduated from a four-year college
- Meet government income guidelines
- Have a documented physical or learning disability

A: Individual and group tutoring, Academic Advising, Career Planning, Computer
Access, Referral to Financial Assistance, Transfer Trips, Cultural Events, Enrichment
Workshops, Peer Mentoring, Leadership Opportunities, Study Skill Development
Q: How much will it cost?
A: Program services are free to all participants.
Q: How do students apply to the program?
A: Applications are available at WCCC in the TRIO office in the Main Building.
If you meet eligibility requirements and would like additional support, guidance and
encouragement to succeed in college, we invite you to apply.
Q: When can students begin the program?
A: Since space is limited, it is advisable to register early to take advantage
of program opportunities. Services will be provided soon after acceptance into the
program.
